-Always make and take your lunch with you. This can be a lot cheaper than eating out for lunch. You can make a large, nutritious, delicious salad at home for around $3.00 including all the ingredients. Or make a whole wheat sandwich or wrap, with an apple or carrot, for about the same. A typical fast food lunch will cost anywhere from $5 to $10, or more!
-Drink water, and forget the soda, energy drinks, and daily Starbucks. Purified water is really cheap, especially when compared to $1 soda's, $3 monster drinks, or $5 cappuccino's. Water helps nourish and cleanse your body, while expensive sugary drinks rob your bank account and your body of vital nutrients and minerals.
-Snacks: Produce is (almost always) cheaper than the vending machine. This takes a little planning ahead, but a quick mid-afternoon banana, apple, or orange is often times cheaper, and way better than a candy bar or bag of chips. You'll probably notice that you're more satisfied after eating the fruit, and you'll definitely feel less guilty!
-Eat more nutritiously dense whole foods, and stop eating before you're full. Fresh fruits and vegetables, whole grains, and properly prepared meats, poultry and fish give you more nutritional "bang" for your buck; they have less calories than packaged junk foods, and they actually leave you feeling more satisfied, thanks to the nutrients. Empty calories like white flour and sugar may fill you up for a short time, but leave you nutritiously empty and craving more. And that ends up costing more. When you eat nutrient-dense meals, and stop when you're not quite full, your body will thank you!
-Take a superfood supplement. Superfood powder supplements are packed with whole food nutrition and antioxidants, and the best ones are pretty cheap: usually $1 to $1.50 per day. They supply you with the nutritional equivalent of several servings of fruits and veggies, and help to boost your immune system, enhance energy, and support overall health and vitality. I recommend GREEN FOOD as the primary and most important supplement for someone to take for daily foundational nutrition.
