There are so
many benefits to buying (at least some of) your food from a reputable,
local source...and it may be easier than you think!
When I say "local", I'm referring to buying clubs, farming co-op's, farmer's markets, and directly from farms.
Here are a few key benefits of buying local:
-You know the source of your food.
You've heard it said that "you are what you eat", but this also holds
true: "You are what you eat EATS!" How your food was raised / grown
makes a HUGE nutritional difference in how it affects you. For
instance, eggs from chickens that are truly "pasture-raised" are far
better than commercial eggs from chickens raised in crowded, windowless
birdhouses and cages.
-Food is fresher. It has less transit time, therefore it's nutrient content is better, and it tastes better, too.
-It's great for the environment.
Smaller, local farmers often use much better sustainable practices
than large food corporations. When you eat local foods, you're almost
without-a-doubt supporting the environment. Now that's two birds with
one stone!

Also...some
natural grocers like Whole Foods Market have local food selections
available as well. Definitely worth checking out!
